"JUST" Arc Timers
Arc time, blue light time, making sparks or what ever you may call it, it is all the same. Money going out, coming in, saved or wasted. Welding is just a part of the fabrication process. Cutting, fit up, grinding, housekeeping, sports scores as well as fishing and hunting stories all make up the time your weld operators spent in front of their machines. You know when your operators start and end their work shift, arc time measures actual productivity. Productivity is the sole point of being there, put your finger directly on the pulse of your business. Accurate record of weld arc time can provide insight into the many facets of how you make and more importantly save money while welding. Deposition rates, shielding gas use, man hours and resource allocation can all be quantified when you know how much time is actually spent making sparks. Knowing these variables allow you to not only manage current projects but more importantly to plan for the needs of future projects. “if you’re not making sparks…you’re not making money” ARC TIMER AND ARC TIMER WITH EVENT COUNTER DEVICES AND OPTIONS Welcome to Just Arc weld ARC TIMERS and ARC TIMERS WITH EVENT COUNTERS. The following information is basic to the features and functions of all of our ARC TIMER products. Please read through it carefully to assist you in selecting the correct product or products for your needs. If you have any questions or do not see what you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact us at the number above or e-mail us with your inquires. Please ask for Dea Just when calling or direct your e-mail to dea@justarc.com When we began making ARC TIMERS in the late 1990’s we only made one basic model. Over the following years our customers shaped the meters to meet their needs. You are by no means limited to the items you will see here. We are willing and able to provide customized products or labeling to meet your specific needs. Just Arc currently offers a selection of ARC TIMERS and ARC TIMERS WITH EVENT COUNTERS that meet the welding industry’s needs. All are economical, small, lightweight, simple to install and easy to use. These ARC TIMERS and ARC TIMERS WITH EVENT COUNTERS give you the edge on controlling material, labor and production costs. WARRANTY With a few exceptions most of our products have a one year warranty which covers workmanship and materials. Evidence of abuse or tampering will void the warranty. Meters are powered by Lithium batteries that require no maintenance and will last in excess of ten years. APPLICATION All of our ARC TIMERS are designed with the welding industry in mind. Unless otherwise indicated all of the devices are for use with CC, CV, Carbon arc, DC TIG, Plasma cutting and welding. Applications that require the use of High Frequency energy to initiate an arc require that the meters have HF capacitors installed. (Products that are High Frequency protected will have the letters “HF” in the part number and also require that a provided external wire be attached to the power supplies earth ground for meter protection.) Please consider this when making your selections. Unfortunately we do not recommend any devices for applications that include Pulsed AC. SENSITIVITY Our “DONUT” sensors will active with as little as thirty-five AMPS DC or sixty-five AMPS AC. We do however offer a low current option for use with DC TIG that will active the meter with current flow as low as six amps DC. In contrast our “CLAMP ON” sensor requires sixty-five AMPS DC to activate it’s meter. HOUSINGS All “JAT-” family meters are in tough ABS nonconductive housings. Our E-RAT family of devices are housed in polycarbonate o-ring sealed boxes which are unsurpassed for harsh welding environments. POWER All meters have internal Lithium batteries that do not require servicing and provide in excess of ten years of continuous carefree operation. This allows our meters to be used as freestanding devices that do not require power or a hard wired interface from any of your equipment. DISPLAY Arc timers collect accumulated time in hours, minutes and whole seconds for accurate record keeping. While ARC TIMER WITH EVENT COUNTERS track both accrued arc time and arc starts. Timers will record up to 9999 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds with reset capabilities. RESET All meters have reset buttons under their display and most have key protected reset enable features. This allows you to use your arc timers in any location without “accidental” data erasure. METER AND SENSOR PLACEMENT Our ARC TIMERS and ARC TIMERS WITH EVENT COUNTERS may be placed anywhere along the your welding system’s positive or negative current path. It should however be place in a prudent location. Here at Just Arc we understand the welding environment, we urge the end user to exercise sound judgment in meter placement to avoid unnecessary damage and or downtime. Our ARC TIMERS and ARC TIMERS WITH EVENT COUNTING devices provide you with two choices with which to gathering your welding data. “CLAMP ON” DATA SENSORS This type of interface with your welding equipment is the easiest to use. The device can be quickly removed at any time. It consists of an nonconductive four inch spring clamp that houses the weld sensor. With a throat opening of 1 1/8” it can easily accommodates welding cable up to 4/0 in diameter. Weld current of sixty-five AMPS DC is required to active the meter. This style of sensor is best utilized in controlled situations and applications were you are gathering information for short periods of time or in multiple locations. Larger, heavy duty clamps are available upon request.
“DONUT” DATA SENSORS This type of sensor is offered in three forms. The first is integral to a boxed housing, the second is a standard four foot lead connected to a meter housing and the third is any length up to 250’. This third option has the advantage of allowing the sensor to be placed some distance from the meter to allow data monitoring of one or more welding systems from in a centralized location. It consists of an nonconductive “donut” that houses the weld sensor. It can easily accommodate welding cable up to 4/0 in diameter. Weld current of thirty-five AMPS DC is required to active the meter. This style of sensor is best used in applications were you are gathering data for longer period of time or where you wish to limit the weld operators interaction with the collected information. The Donut style sensor is small enough to be place inside of power supplies and some wire feeders. It is approximately 2 3/8” in diameter by 1½” deep. Please contact us for more details. JAT-AT8 This is an example of a customer request. The end user wanted to monitor twenty four power supplies from a remote location. Three each of the kits pictured were provided. Each was comprised of an eight metered ARC TIMER box with terminal strip on top to interface with eight donut sensors, four 150’ and four 200’ lead assemblies. The end user placed the donuts inside of their power supplies and ran conduit for the remote leads to a central box with a Plexiglas door which was locked. Management, the union representative and weld operators could all monitor each persons work in a shop where employees were paid for the amount of “piece work” each produce during a given period of time.
JAT-ATVHFD WITH LOW CURRENT OPTION This is an example of a customer’s request to meet a specific need. Welds utilizing DC TIG at currents between six to eight AMPS DC needed to be monitored. Here a standard ARC TIMER was fitted with HF protection capacitors and grounding strap. The donut sensor was fitted with low current “amplifier”. This is the only case to date where an arc timer has had to directly interface with the power supplies’ current path. Due to the low currents involved the addition of the amplifier coil did not interfere with arc starts or stops in this application. We are only limited by your imagination!
